Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days

19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
