The number of victims due to the transport jet that ignited and plummeted has now reached 13, per official announcements.
City Leader's Announcement
“On my way to the Teamsters’ vigil, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft incident,” stated the local official in a public communication. “My prayers are with the loved ones, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this recently occurred tragedy. We will endure this together.”
Casualties Named
A statement from UPS listed the flight crew operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our thoughts reach out to every UPSer who has been touched and everyone in our local area – assisting you and making sure you obtain the care and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s statement stated.
Investigation Details
National investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing burst into flames and an power plant separated soon after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to fall and explode into a fireball.
The safety agency stated it is examining the aircraft’s service record, that was in Texas for repairs a period before the crash.
Flight tracking information revealed the plane was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from the start of last month to last week.
“We are cognizant that this plane was there in the facility,” said an NTSB member on Thursday, without providing a exact period. “We will examine each aspect of repairs that was done, from the San Antonio visit, right up to the time of the journey.”
Retrieval of Key Items
The audio device and information unit were recovered, and the engine was located on the runway.
The units – called data containers – were designed to survive accident forces and severe heat from fires, and they appeared to be intact when located among the remains. Investigators plan on examining data from the black boxes.
Jet’s concluding data recordings indicated an elevation of that level and a rate of 210 miles per hour before the impact.
Repair History
Based on aviation authority records from last month, a fissure on a part inside the fuel container needed fixes.
Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it supplies airframe maintenance for UPS’s MD-11 and operates a maintenance center in San Antonio, chose not to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators contacted it.
Services Restart
In the meantime, the facility services continued Wednesday night with its express also known as evening process, official Jim Mayer said. The three runways at the airport were also back in operation.
The UPS package handling facility in the city is the organization’s biggest. The facility engages in excess of twenty thousand people in the area, manages 300 aircraft daily and sorts in excess of four hundred thousand items each hour.
Local Reaction
A memorial was held on the night of 6 November by the area labor union, which supports workers at the Louisville airport, the organization’s primary freight center.
Teamsters Local 89, which represents UPS workers, started the gathering with a period of reflection at that time, the rough moment of the accident before.
“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the official spoke to the group of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any of those who we have mourned.”
