Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
